Types of Bets in Roulette

Roulette is a simple casino game based entirely on chance. The game begins when the croupier throws a small ball into a spinning wheel. Players may continue to place their bets until the croupier announces, “No more bets.” Then, players watch as the ball bounces around and settles into one of the many pockets on the wheel that mark a number. If the player has bet on that number, they have won!

There are two types of bets in roulette: inside and outside. Inside bets entail placing chips on individual numbers, while outside bets cover a group of numbers based on their position on the wheel. Each type of bet offers different odds and payouts. Outside bets are better for beginners because they offer a wider coverage of the table and higher chances to win, but at a lower payout.

Dozens Bet (also known as douzaine in French): This bet wagers that the winning number will be in the first, second, or third dozen on the table layout. The 0 and 00 are not counted for this bet, so the house edge is 2-1.

Odd or Even Bet: This bet wagers that the winning color is red or black, or that the number is odd or even. The 0 and 00 are not included in this bet, so the house edge is 1-1.

Straight-up Bet: This bet places your chips on a single number on the table. If the ball lands on that number, you receive your original wager plus an equal amount in winnings.

Call bets are specific to European and French roulette, and entail placing your chips on groups of numbers that are either vertical or horizontal on the layout. This bet type is a great option for those who want to avoid the maths of betting systems and focus solely on chance.
